Our Picks for the Best Father’s Day Outings

Our Picks for the Best Father’s Day Outings

June 06, 2018

As much as your dad will appreciate the fancy shaving kit and novelty bottle opener you picked out for him, what he really wants most for Father’s Day is some good old fashioned quality bonding time with his kiddos. Dad can always order himself a new tool box online, but only you can give him a fun afternoon spent together just like the good old days. Neither my dad nor I remember what I got him for Father’s Day last year, but I’m sure we’ll both always fondly reminisce on me spilling my beer in his lap doing the wave at Suntrust Park. Oops. Sorry Dad!

I took it upon myself to ask the Sock Fancy team what special activities they had planned for their pops in the next coming weeks. Here are a few ideas of places around Atlanta to take your dad this June 17th — mark your calendars, y’all — to give him the best Father’s Day yet.

Adam’s pick: Atlanta United Game Atlanta vs Portland, Sunday June 24th, 4:30 PM

Suntrust isn’t the only shiny new stadium our city has to offer! Take dad to the brand spankin’ new Mercedes Benz Stadium to cheer on Atlanta United. I just attended my first Atlanta United game a few weeks ago, and I have to admit I was skeptical going in. By the end of the first half, however, I was booing the ref with the rest of the 40,000+ United fanatics. With fan first pricing, you can eat at some delicious Atlanta favorites (like Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand!!!) for just about as much as it costs outside the stadium. All dads love a deal, right?

James’s pick: Grilled Cheese Festival June 16th-17th, Brookhaven Park

For all the grilled cheeses dad made for you growing up, it’s about time you treat him to a few gourmet cheesy sandwiches for a change! The 2018 Grilled Cheese Festival will be held in Brookhaven Park on Father’s Day weekend and feature live music, good food, and lots of cold beer. Be sure to check out the spread offered by Sun in My Belly, my favorite brunch spot in the city!

Ella’s pick: Braves Game Padres @ Braves, Sunday June 17th, 1:35 PM

As a baseball fan and Braves apologist, this is my go-to father-daughter date spot. I’ll be the first to admit that I miss Turner Field *a lot*, but Suntrust Park really does have so much to offer. Get there early to poke around the Battery and grab a bagel at Goldberg’s, then stop by the Waffle House Hashbrown Cart in section 130, the first and only WaHo location that sells beer. As a bonus, the Braves are actually good this year! Can you think of a better gift for dad than a Braves win, a big breakfast, and a couple beers?

Jamie’s pick: Top Golf Midtown or Alpharetta

You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy this dad favorite! Top Golf is even perfect for people (like me) who don’t care for golf but do care for good food, poppy music, and pitchers of beer. Give dad a chance to show off his swing with this high tech twist on a classic. Top Golf even offers special Father’s Day reservations for up to 6 guests, so you can take the whole family over to West Midtown for a little friendly competition.

Kari’s pick: New Realm Brewing 550 Somerset Terrace NE

Located just past Ponce City Market on the Beltline’s Eastside Trail, New Realm Brewing has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. You can take Dad on a brewery tour for just $8, and then head up to the rooftop patio to sample your way through their menu of locally brewed beer. Dad is sure to love their modern take on classic bar grub — try the brisket loaded french fries — while sipping on The Commissioner blonde ale (it’s my favorite). As a bonus, the rooftop has a gorgeous view of the skyline, which will make a perfect backdrop for your #HappyFathersDay Instagram post.
